Wild Urban Interface (WUI) is the zone of transition between unoccupied land and human development. According to the U.S. Fire Commission, more than 60,000 communities in the United States are at risk for WUI fires.The International Wildland Urban Interface Code (IWUIC) was established by the ICC as an overlay to the IBC and IRC when development exists in WUI areas where wildfire threats are possible. As wildfire threats increase, more jurisdictions are adopting this code. What is in the Code?

GA’s Schmeida Receives Award of Merit from ASTM
The GA is pleased to announce that ASTM International has honored GA Director of Codes, Standards and Research Michael Schmeida, MSc, LEED AP with an ASTM Award of Merit and the title Fellow. Michael has been an ASTM member for nearly two decades and has served in numerous leadership roles within the organization. “To be recognized in this way is amazing,” Michael said, adding, “I join the ranks of individuals for whom I have deep respect and admiration. I am truly humbled.”
