Live GA Education for Code Officials

Greg Woolley

Despite the pandemic, the Gypsum Association is beginning to realize a longtime goal: Providing educational sessions for regional code bodies. A Guide to Gypsum Association Code Referenced and Online Resources was presented to the ICC Upper Great Plains Region III in February by GA Technical and Market Advisor Greg Woolley.

Region III's Virtual/In-Person Educational Institute was held February 8–12, 2021, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was the 17th year Region III, the Association of Minnesota Building Officials (AMBO) and ICC collaborated on this mid-winter educational event and the first time a hybrid educational institute was offered.

Conducted virtually, Greg's session reviewed the essentials of gypsum panel products, and guided attendees through the Gypsum Association's code referenced documents, namely, GA-600 Fire Resistance and Sound Control Design Manual, GA-216 Application and Finishing of Gypsum Panel Products and GA-253 Application of Gypsum Sheathing. Greg also spent some time reviewing various pertinent resources available at gypsum.org.

Twenty-five learners attended the course, which provided four contact hours and 0.40 CEUs in the category "Fire." Why such a long session? As they transition to a largely virtual format, Region III made a special request of the Association and Greg for additional contact hours.
